House Teams
At Burgh by Sands School, our commitment to immersing children in the rich heritage of our local area extends to the launch of our new house system, which will be introduced after the half-term break. Every child will be placed into one of four houses, with siblings grouped into the same house. All other children will be divided into the four groups: Aballava, Itouna, Vallum, and Carvetti.
The names of our houses are inspired by the local history of our area.
- Aballava was a Roman fort that once stood near Burgh by Sands, playing an important role along Hadrian's Wall.
- Itouna is thought to be a reference to the River Eden, an essential part of the local landscape.
- Vallum refers to the defensive earthwork that ran parallel to Hadrian’s Wall, symbolizing strength and protection.
- Carvetti is named after the ancient Celtic tribe that once inhabited this region, reflecting our connection to the past.
Our school houses will be integral to our behaviour and reward systems. Children will earn points for their houses through exceptional work in the classroom and positive behaviour. At the end of each half term, the house with the most points will enjoy a special house treat. Year 6 pupils will have the opportunity to apply for the role of House Captain, fostering leadership and responsibility within the school.
We look forward to seeing this new system in action and how it brings our school community even closer together!
