History
We are not makers of history. We are made by history.
At Burgh by Sands School, our history curriculum begins in the Early Years, laying the foundation for our youngest learners to explore the past. In these early years, we focus on activities that help children understand time, significant events, and the people who have shaped their memories, including the invaluable stories shared by parents and grandparents.
As pupils progress into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, they deepen their understanding of chronology and the sequence of historical events. Our curriculum spans from ancient history to modern times, encouraging pupils to make connections and understand the significance of the past. We particularly emphasise local history, exploring the rich heritage of Hadrian's Wall, as Burgh by Sands is an ancient Roman site.
Through engaging lessons and hands-on experiences, we aim to inspire a curiosity for history and an appreciation for how it shapes our present and future. By understanding the past, our pupils are empowered to become informed citizens who can reflect on the world around them.
