Safeguarding
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility...
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and something that we take great care to be aware of at Burgh by Sands School.
If you have a serious safeguarding concern about a child that is in an emergency situation please call the Police immediately on 999.
If you have a serious concern about a child or young person that requires immediate attention please call the Cumberland Safeguarding Hub on 0333 240 1727
As a school, we are committed to every child having a safe and happy upbringing, where children are free to grow up with integrity and dignity. Anyone who joins our school will be expected to share this commitment and should any concerns arise, to be proactive in following procedures and seeking advice from appropriate agencies as outlined in our safeguarding policy.
In school, our safeguarding team is made up of:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mrs Sarah Robson
- Deputy Safeguarding Leads: Miss Sheena Hetherington and Mrs Samantha Tofield.
- Our Safeguarding governor is Miss Danielle Robinson.
A list of these names is displayed in the entrance hall for visitors and parents to view and the information has also been shared with the children. Further contact details may be accessed via our Safeguarding Policy.

Operation Encompass
Operation encompass is an initiative run jointly between schools and Cumbria Police.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced any domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, usually the DSL known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have experienced a domestic abuse incident.
We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
