Sports Premium
The government has provided Sports Premium funding for the period of this report to provide additional and sustainable improvements to PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils and to encourage the development of healthy and active lifestyles. Each January the school census records the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6 and this figure is used to calculate the PE and Sport Premium for the following academic year. This money goes directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and P.E; each school receives £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil.
We take great pride in offering a wide range of sporting activities for all our children. Our aim is to ensure every child finds a sport they enjoy, helping them to improve their skills and develop a lifelong appreciation of how physical activity benefits both body and mind.
We work with a range of Sports coaches throughout the year including Carlisle United and The Sands Centre to deliver a variety of sports, including netball, gymnastics, cricket, athletics and golf. These lessons are engaging, well-structured, and provide opportunities for both children and staff to learn new skills. Our staff work closely alongside the coaches, ensuring they develop their teaching of these activities too.
All pupils in Year 3/4 attend swimming lessons at The Sands Centre during the Summer Term, where they receive a series of swimming and water safety lessons.
Throughout the year, we also organise exciting activities like Razzamatazz Dance workshops, sports tournaments, and participate in a dedicated Health and Fitness Week, where children explore new ways to stay active. Other activities include Wheelchair Basketball with Nat, and Bikeability for our Year 5 children, ensuring a rich and varied sporting experience for all.
